Chimarra Stamps

A Childhood Fascination: The Stamps of Chimarra in Epirus

From an early age, I was fascinated by the stamps of Chimarra in Epirus. I vividly recall that our local dealer once had an approval booklet in which such a set was displayed. When I enquired about it, he replied: “There is nothing for sale; I must check first.” Fortunately, he did so — for there is no doubt that the set in question was not genuine.

The issue had been produced by the pro-Greek faction in territories then disputed between the Albanians and the Greeks. Today, the town is known as Himarrë and lies in southern Albania.

It is worth noting that around 99% of the Chimarra stamps offered on eBay are forgeries. The same applies to many examples found in collections or offered as single lots by auction houses, where they are frequently either outright fakes or so-called “private prints.”

Hello

My name is Andrzej Zbojnowicz, I am born in 1961 in Zurich, Switzerland. I am living in the little town of Wezikon in the Zurich Oberland

I founded Philimpex A. Zbojnowicz in 1996, commonly known as Philimpex.

I have been a dedicated professional philatelist throughout my career, having started collecting and trading stamps as a pupil an a student.

What do I specialize in? I deal in a wide range of postage stamps and covers, whether as individual items, lots, or complete collections.

While my primary focus is on stamps from Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Albania, Bhutan, Monaco, and France and Poland I maintain a broad inventory that spans numerous other countries.

Additionally, I offer thousands of topical sets, curated for collectors with specific thematic interests.

I am also a collector and have collected Poland for as long as I can remember. My focus is on Polish postal history documenting the country’s independence from 1918 until the end of the inflation period in 1924. In addition, I collect Swiss internee covers from the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, known as the Bourbaki Army, and from the Second World War, with a particular emphasis on Polish internees.

COMPANY HISTORY

At Philimpex, I guarantee that all individual stamps and sets are accurately described. If any item is incorrectly described, forged, has fake gum or cancellations, or concealed repairs, I offer a full refund. However, this guarantee does not extend to single stamps within large accumulations, packets, etc., unless specifically stated (e.g., “all stamps in this packet guaranteed genuine” or “guaranteed mint, never hinged, with original gum”).

I am available to assist with viewing and purchasing at most Swiss auction houses and can provide consultation on selling high-quality philatelic items. I am also an active buyer of valuable stamps, collections, stocks, and discounted postage from Switzerland and Liechtenstein (please inquire for current quotes).

Alongside managing Philimpex, I serve as senior philatelist at Corinphila Auction in Zurich.

Previously, I worked for many years as a philatelist and manager at Schwarzenbach Auktion Zurich until Mr. Schwarzenbach retired.
